I no longer have $20 emergency money in my purse. This makes me very sad, and I'm a bit disappointed with myself.
I can't even say that I spent it on something worthwhile or something that was an emergency.
Brian and I had to make an hour-long trip to pick up some food for the dogs, and we had to leave straight from work, so we stopped at a fast food place on the way and got something to eat... *poof* - there goes my $20.
And there goes my digestive system and all the progress I'd made in the last month. It only takes one slip-up to undo a few weeks of good, doesn't it?
But we were in a hurry, and I had not planned well enough to bring anything along to eat on the way. So, fast food it was. However; to quote the inimitable Eliot Spencer (anyone else a Leverage fan?), "Bad choices are bad choices; it doesn't matter why you made them." Thank you for those immortal words of wisdom, Eliot. :-)
For the most part, I've been doing pretty OK at eating mainly meat, fruits and vegetables. Though I have to admit, I have cheated here and there. I have been avoiding soy, gluten, dairy and added sugar. (Artificial sweeteners are also on this "avoid" list, but I already avoided those like the plague, so that was no big thing.) And I have been feeling GREAT!!
I realize that not everyone is the same, and this kind of "diet" will not necessarily make anyone else feel as good as I've felt. For instance, Brian feels fine with the gluten and dairy, along with his meat, fruits and veggies. But it's been working wonders for me! And I've lost 8 pounds! (12 more to go!)
I could not believe the difference in just a few days. I had more energy, did not feel as sluggish, and I dropped four pounds in just the first two weeks. In fact, the last time I visited my natural doctor, she looked over the results of my saliva test and pronounced, "This report looks good!"
Not that it was easy! I have a sweet tooth the size of Montana, and it took me a week and a half to get past the sugar cravings. But once I did, I've been SO over the sugary snacks... (take a hike, donuts!) And I've not been hungry - except when I didn't plan well and didn't bring enough fruits and veggies to work to snack on. I can basically eat as much as I want - of the right things.
But yesterday evening I didn't eat the right things, and, boy, did I notice it. The sluggishness, the tiredness, the blah... It was all back. Not for long, thankfully, but it was a good reminder of why I'm doing what I'm doing.
So, hello, protein shake for breakfast! Yummy blueberries, cucumber and apple to snack on later. Yup, I'm back on the wagon today!
