But last night Brian and I had the best sparklers ever! We stood on our front porch for a few minutes and watched God's sparklers - the fireflies around our house are absolutely amazing!!! They filled the trees in the woods and the grasses at the bottom of our hill, and their little flashing lights made it look like there were strings of twinkling white lights in the trees. There's just no describing it - standing there in the silence, watching the beautiful display of God's creation. Cool, awesome, beautiful, tranquil... you can't use just one single word to describe it; it's all of these and more.
I guess I did have sparklers when I was a kid, after all. We used to catch fireflies and keep them in a jar with some grass and a twig or two. (don't worry, I'd usually set them free the next day) Or we'd catch them and hold them in our cupped hands to watch them light up. (until they crawled out at you - nothing like a firefly coming right at your eyeball!)
Hopefully, we'll have many nights this summer where we can sit and watch the awesome fireworks display that God gives us to enjoy! And I hope you can, too, where ever you are!
